Yesterday Adrian Bayley was arrested for the rape and murder of Jill Meagher who disappeared a week ago in the state of Victoria, Australia. There has been an unprecedented amount of grief around this case. So many are talking about an unacceptable attack on such a pretty and innocent victim.

My heart goes out to her family and friends for their loss. It must be terrible for them and I wish them all the comfort that can be mustered.

However, as gently as I can, I want to explore with you a broader perspective on how and why murders happen.

I’ve watched several cases over the last few months and checked in with what we can learn from today’s spiritual teachers.

The explanation that comes up most often, regardless of whether the victim appears to be deliberately chosen or random, the murder planned or spontaneous, is that the two souls involved have been “at each other’s throats” for many lives.

This of course is not known to the murderer or the victim in this life. A lot of the time they can’t explain the event. They may not know why they suddenly were involved in such a dramatic and violent way. But with the possibility of “revenge” being an explanation, it opens up a much deeper understanding of the motive.

Presently we don’t have much knowledge or skill in how to look deeper into the past of a murderer and their victim. Even the best mediums seem to just be given snippets of information.

This however, may be something that will change in the future where some people will be able to see all the lives of both souls and be able to offer more appropriate therapy while the murderer is in jail.

If this is not done then the cycle is highly likely to repeat.

Sometimes payback doesn’t even need to be a murder but some kind of balancing still needs to happen.

(I’m sure glad I wasn’t a Nazi if each soul taken needs some form of balancing in the future.)

I don’t want to discuss recent murders and their background as the families will still be sensitive. So I’ll take an interesting and much milder example from a few months ago.

At around 6am I heard a car flying up the road perpendicular to my own. It screeched out of control into my street and hit a car on the other side of the road from my house.

I jumped out of bed to take a look and found them sideways on the road directly facing me. I knew I only had a few seconds before they left so decided the licence plate was the only thing I would concentrate on.

In my peripheral vision I could see someone in the passenger seat gesticulating wildly – they obviously saw me looking. Then they backed up a bit and burnt rubber all the down the street as they escaped.

When the police arrived they asked me about the description of the car. They wanted all the details – the make/model, colour, size of the car and anything about the passengers. I tried my best and managed a colour and size of the car. They continued questioning me over and over which got me rather mad but, when they left, I jumped on the internet to search for the licence plate.

Sure enough there it was from 5 years ago for sale at a second hand car dealer. The problem was I guessed it was dark grey and it was actually black. I said it was station wagon (why did I say that when it was facing me and I couldn’t see the back???) when it was a hatchback.

I rang the police straight away to tell them yes, that was definitely the car now I can see it but they said it was too late. Because the details did not match, the evidence was incomplete or tainted or something and so they wouldn’t be following it up at all!

I was mortified! I’d focussed so hard on getting the licence plate right but sullied my own evidence. It haunted me for weeks and so I sought advice from Mercredan. Here is a part of the conversation.

As usual,
A = me and M = Mercredan

A: OK, I have just been speaking with our dear friend (Francis the channeller) about my curiosity around the car that was hit, the man who hit the car drove away and now the police will not follow him up to face his responsibilities.

M: And once again, it seems as though that should be the way it is. However if we take a wider perspective. These 2 people have met previously in the battle you call Trafalgar. One on one side, the other on the other, firing solid balls at one another. This young one is hit by a solid projectile – killed outright. That leaves him with a feeling of the injustice of such a happening. (This makes me giggle at myself inside – I keep forgetting the soul continues to think and come to conclusions once they’ve passed out of physical form.) That has affected his responsibilities towards his socialness.

A: socialness?

M: One thinks someone should behave as society expects of them. They should be responsible for their actions. This one is asking “What about the past? Who was responsible for my death? What about the responsibility of society for me? What about my compensation?” brings about.

A: He did not kill my neighbor in response though. He saved him?

M: He does not want to fit in to an uncaring society with the rules and regulations who doesn’t have time to look after it’s citizens. It is no compensation when one is buried at sea without concern, just tipped into the water.

A: Does he feel relief now?

M: Not at all. It is an unconscious attraction between the two. The other one doesn’t understand it either. It seems random at first. In so many cases in your experiences it all seems to be random but there is always an undercurrent of unfinished business.

A: After movement of consciousness, will we understand these random things better?

M: That is true. After movement the whole concept of blame will be differently perceived. Not that you will not need to incarcerate but you look far more towards clarifying and remedying the problem. Humankind has to learn compassion for it’s fellow members. In the majority of cases people are less guilty because they are unaware of the underlying causes.

A: How long does the balancing go on?

M: It’s not as simple as that. It’s not the event that is the problem it is the interpretation of the event in each one’s being. The young person is not quite as sure on what that event has left on his character because it’s not quite as resolved as the first event. For the second who pointed the canon is unconscious of anything that occurred or the ramifications. But underneath, the higher beings attract back which will bring some resolution. It appears to this one (the young one), that it sees it’s behaviour as random and not linked to his view of an uncaring society. Reality confirms his belief now that no one will charge him because they are uncaring (Law of Attraction at work again!) .

A: I am more upset my own performance. I had the opportunity to help and what I offered made no difference.

M: Most important that you seemingly get mistaken other wise it would have caused another outcome. It is important that your own need for social order opens up yet another story line…

(Yes, my story that follows this is just as fascinating but we’ll stop here for now.)

So you see? Similar stories come up for even the most innocent and randomly chosen victims – even babies and young children. When the victim has been completely innocent, angelic and, dare I say, beautiful in this life like Jill Meagher, it makes this theory all the more difficult to accept, I totally agree.

But I’m sure, like the young soul described above who hit my neighbour’s car, there is at the same time many a murderer who sits behind bars unable to forgive themselves to doing something so out of character or so out of control.

Perhaps in the future when we can see a clearer and deeper explanation, they can be given more effective rehabilitation while they are incarcerated which may be able to break the cycle so that they can stop killing each other in the future.

Locals describe murderer of Jill Meagher “an easygoing average Joe”.
