I have a Facebook friend who is very pro one strain of her family tree. She’s all for one particular minority race and says little about the rest of the melting pot that gave her her DNA. She’s very much into promoting the need for recompensing descendants for what was taken from their ancestors in an earlier era.

I thought I’d look at her plight from the perspective of what I know about past lives.

What is a past life?

It’s a life most of us has had in another era of time or space. Some people may have had hundreds of them through the centuries, some in different galaxies (which we’re not discussing here). Sometimes in parallel universes where the times overlap. So one life may be running at the same time as another and we can be two people with different names in the same era.

Quantum Physicists have plenty to say about time being relative and that time is not, in fact, in chronological order. The irony is that all time exists together though may not happen at the same time. Not really a past life, but an other life. (Don’t ask me to expand on this theory, I’m still getting my head around it. Ask a Quantum Physicist!)

Past Lives can account for the interests we may have that the rest of our family have no interest in.
They can account for beliefs we hold that no one around us told us to believe.
They are why sometimes we meet people that we feel like we know really well.
They may be the reason we have Deja vu.

How do we know past lives are real?

Well, my view is that once you start to look around, you will find there is simply too much evidence to ignore.

Let’s get back to that Facebook friend though.

If you take the past lives into account, you have to ask “Who are our ancestors?”
The true answer is likely to be almost every race on the planet.

And if we have a life where another race takes advantage of us or treats us really badly, we have a choice in how we react. If we choose to accept what has happened and forge forward in making life the best it can be, we can move on at the end of that life. If we’ve learnt all we need to learn it’s unlikely we’ll need to return to Earth to balance the situation. If we choose to react with resentment, revenge, fear and anger; we die and then have the choice to come around again in a different guise to balance the situation.

What does that mean for those of us who are alive on Earth here today?

It means WE ARE OUR ANCESTORS.

So who is it that needs to be compensated?

There is suffering in every age on every continent at some scale. This can be very traumatic to go through so, forgetting all your past lives as you start again is probably REALLY important or you’ll spend all your current life seeking revenge on anyone who might have done you wrong in the “past”.

My view is we should focus all our energy on supporting the living beings on our planet who are alive here today. Not go back in the past. There’s enough to “fix” right now, inequalities to sort out and each soul is of equal importance.

More irony: From a Life Coach point of view – and one I share with many a psychologist and therapist – I would also add that those who complain loudest that reparations are needed are highly likely to be sub-consciously feeling guilt of what they have done to others before, even if they don’t remember it. They may have been the original protagonists, not the victims.

This may sound like a whacky idea but it is highly effective.

Next time you find yourself feeling bad for an individual, an animal or a group of people and how they are being treated, the first thing you can do is to take a quiet moment, look inside and say

I forgive myself for all the unloving deeds I have done in the past.
I forgive myself for all others I treated badly.
I make amends where I can
and I help others in the future
asking nothing in return
but the request that they do the same for someone else
where they see help is needed.
Pay it Forward as such.
I am enough
and I am improving every day.”

Once you learn to accept yourself better and start making amends you can be proud of, your anxiety will reduce. You’ll feel happier, calmer, stronger inside and less drawn to carrying the pain of those who are going through their own difficult parts of the journey.

We don’t know their story or why they need to go through this. If you can help and offer support, great. If you can’t, then you are harming yourself by volunteering to carry their burden.
